| Notes (this edition) These notes were written by the original owner/seller/auctioner of the item and may be inaccurate.: | This is a very beautiful woodblock print by noted shin hanga printmaker Kawase Hasui. The print is oban size, about 14 1/4 x 9 1/2 plus full margins. Entitled "Skirt of Mt. Fuji"; dates from the 1940s; early impression, never reprinted. This print was published without Watanabe publisher's seals (this was the case with all prints of this image; none bore any Watanabe seals). Signed lower right. A very rare print; this is the first time I recall seeing this image on ebay. Beautiful color, impression and condition. |
This is a very rare original oban size, limited edition shin hanga Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Skirt of Mt. Fuji" (Nazaraki #453), signed/sealed in the image by the artist. The print was commissioned by Pacific Transport Line and published by Watanabe Shozaburo. Five hundred copies of this print were produced for a special gift calendar in 1952. The print is in overall very good condition. Fine impression, excellent color, registration and bleedthrough. No foxing, toning, folds or creases. The print is not setdown or trimmed. This print has never been framed. The only flaw is two very light red ink marks at the lower right corner of the print. The closeup of the sui seal shows these marks. Paper size is 10" x 15". A very rarely seen Hasui woodblock print. |
Thursday, 26 July 2007 Japanese Woodblock Print by Kawase Hasui Skirt of Mt. Fuji Artist: Kawase Hasui Date:1953 , Published by Watanabe Shozaburo Image Size: Oban, about 10" x 15" Condition: Fine color and bleed through, very good condition, some slight waves. Absolutely no water damage to this print. I took these pictures outside and most of them show shadows, but there are not shadows or problems with the prints unless noted. May be a calendar print commissioned by Pacific Transport lines (edition of 500 copies), never been framed This woodblock print is part of a hanging calendar / portfolio and each print is attached just at the top. The other paper shows yellowing around the edges but the print itself is in great condition. There are eleven other prints from this portfolio that I am listing individually.
