Size: oban approx. 10.5" x 15.5" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After WWII the workshop of Shozaburo Watanabe continued its association with several of its pre-war artists (most notably Kawase Hasui and Ito Shinsui), and added new ones including Ide Gakusui, Kikuchi Ryoji, and Muto Katei. Other than his birth year of 1910, little is known of the artist Muto Katei who designed this rarely seen Hasui-esque print of the village Futomi at nightfall.

Impression: Fine, solid key lines, tight registration, and good surface texture
Color: Fine, deep saturated color with bleed through to verso
Comments: The prints of Muto Katei are rarely found on the market
This listing is for a vintage Muto Katei Japanese woodblock print titled "Engakuji Temple in Kamakura". The image measures 9 1/2" x 14 1/4" without the margins; 10 1/4" x 15 1/2" with the margins. There is a pin/pencil point sized hole in the paper in the left margin near the upper corner. It's that little dark speck you can see in the images. Sunday, 11 November 2007
