JAODB note: This version has margins on all four sides so I suspect it is a later (probably 2nd) edition; definitely pre-war due to the publisher seal in the lower left margin.
This is an Original and a Rare Period woodblock print by Yoshikawa Kanpo (1894-1979), a well known Shin Hanga artist of a young dancer named Hinazo. This print is Signed Kanpo and Dated Taisho 11 (1922). In the lower bottom left margin is the rectangular publisher's seal Sato Shotaro. The print has Full margins and measures 16 3/8" by 11 1/2".
The print is in good condition with strong colors and plenty of Mica which you can see when viewed in light or from the sides. The paper appears slightly toned and there are remnants of backing paper along the bottom which it was once attached to; however I think it can be removed by a professional. There's also a paper discoloration of 1/8" wide on her chin as evident in the images. This must have happened over time and I think can be lightened by a professional. |
