ORIGINAL WOODBLOCK PRINT BY KAORU KAWANO (1916-1962). TITLE: UNKNOWN. SUBJECT GIRL IN THISTLE. SIGNED IN PENCIL AT LEFT BOTTOM WITH ARTIST RED SEAL AT RIGHT. SIZE 16 3/4" X 11 1/4". CONDITION: VERY GOOD, COLOR AND IMPRESSION VERY GOOD, NEVER LAID DOWN & NEVER TRIMMED. TAPE RESIDUE IS ON ALL FOUR SIDES ON VERSO. UP FOR AUCTION IS AN ESTATE SALE FIND OF A CONTEMPORARY WOODBLOCK DONE BY KAWANO KAORU. THIS APPEARS TO BE IN THE ORIGINAL FRAME. THE FRAME IS NOT IN GREAT SHAPE BUT THE PICTURE LOOKS TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I DID NOT WANT TO TAKE IT APART BECAUSE THE PRINT IS ENCASED IN THE FRAME. THE PICTURE OF THE BACK DOES NOT HAVE A DENT IN THE WOOD, IT IS JUST A REFLECTION CAUSED BY THE FLASH. IT MEASURES 14 1/2" X 8 3/4".
