Subject: Depicted in this work is the famous Vermilion torii (gate) at the Shinto shrine on the island of Itsukushima. An Antlered Stag and a Doe are silhouetted on the foreground shore, a stone lantern to the right. Itsukushima is located in Japan's Inland sea and is part of Hiroshima prefecture. The shrine on the island, which is primarily constructed over water, is considered a spot of scenic beauty in Japan.
