| Notes (this edition) These notes were written by the original owner/seller/auctioner of the item and may be inaccurate.: | Saturday, 5 August 2006 Guaranteed original Japanese woodblock print ARTIST: Tsuruoka Kakunen SUBJECT: Parrot (numbered edition: 57/100, signed, dated & numbered in pencil) PUBLISHER: Watanabe (print bears the Watanabe "D" seal) DATE: 1940 PROVENANCE: Obtained directly from the artist's family SIZE: 9.75" x 19.75" CONDITION: Excellent color, impression, condition. NOTE: Kakunen was a shin hanga artist who did only a handful of designs including several San Franciso subjects. That Watanabe (publisher of Hasui, Shinsui, etc.) published his work is testament to how skilled an artist he was. His prints are generally hard to locate. This design may be his most popular. |
