This Japanese woodcut print is by Koitsu and published by Watanabe. It depicts boats in a harbor. It is a full sheet with full margins, approx. 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches. I believe that this is a very early state, perhaps the first state for this print, but I am not positive. The print is in good condition with wonderful color.
This print (along with 9 others that I am offering) came out of a wonderful estate full of beautiful Japanese objects. The original owners had lived in Japan from the 1930's. Please see my other auctions for some cloisonne and other wonderful items out of this estate :)
Condition Note - We do our best to describe and picture the prints to their fullest. Every monitor is different and the pictures may show up differently on your computer than on mine. Although they are in very good condition, these prints are not brand new so don't expect pure white margins and stuff hot of the printing block! They show a wonderful age patina typical of prints of this age. Thank you and good luck!

This is a gorgeous Japanese woodblock print by noted shin hanga printmaker Tsuchiya Koitsu. The print depicts a sunset scene at the port of Tomonoura. The print measures about 14 1/2 x 9 1/2 plus full margins. It bears the 6mm Watanabe circular seal lower left. The print is in beautiful condition, never framed. There are two tiny tape remnants in the reverse margins where the print was once affixed to its presentation folder. The color and impression are superb. It is easily the nicest impression I have ever seen of this image.

This print was created by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) He was the member of the group of artists like Kawase Hasui, Takahashi Shotei(Hiroaki), Shiro Kasamatsu who created the prints for publishers Watanabe Shozaburo, Doi Teiichi and others. The landscape prints of Tsuchiya Koitsu are notable for their dramatic use of light and shadow. Here is “Sunset at Tomonotsu, Inland Sea”, one of great prints published and printed by Watanabe Shosaburo in 1940 (this one is later lifetime edition c.1948-50). Signed Koitsu and has artists seal Shin (true). Inscribed in Japanese on the left margin. Bears 6mm Watanabe round seal, indicate it’s early lifetime edition.
