Thanks to Andrew for this entry.

Hi Ross,

Here is some context and another example for your Teii Nakamura woodblock: Sakura of Heian Shrine.

It originally comes from an English language "Nippon Today & Tomorrow 1941" magazine that gives a very much pre-war description of Japan for foreigners and includes some art work. All but the Teii Nakamura woodblock are lithographs, however.

This example of the print comes from a private library and apparently sat untouched on a shelf for 75 years. The woodblock print is close to its original condition, although the normal magazine pages are extremely fragile. A good description of the print, with the official title, appears on the tissue guard page. A quite nice pre-war bijin print of a thoughtful young Kyoto woman.
