Good afternoon,
I came across your web site and you seem a very knowledgeable person so I'm hoping you may be able to help me with a question.
We bought this print (?) when we lived in Tokyo in 1970. I always thought the framer must have covered up the signature, etc. Now that I look at the enlargement of the seal, I wonder if it is a print at all. I have never seen small bumps like that before on a print. Could it be a painting? My husband didn't always get receipts or certificates so I have no idea how to research this.
Would you have any ideas? I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Regards,
xxxx
Hello xxxx,
Well I would also like to know what you have there; that is quite a stunning print. I think it is most likely a serigraph (thus the 3D textured inks) but it may be a woodblock print using acrylic paint. The seal is unreadable and I expect you will find all the information we need in the bottom margin (artist signature, edition, title, date). The style reminds me of Yoshiharu Kimura but I don't think he did serigraphs.
What are the dimensions of the printed area?
Cheers,
Ross |
