The following information was taken from the original web listing of this artwork. Note that there may be some inaccuracies:
Hello, I have a print that very closely resembles a print by Hiroshige Ando from the 53 Stations of the Tokaido Road titled Kawazaki. It shows several people being taken across a river by a pole man. The print size is approx. 13 1.2" x 9 1/2". It is old and poorly framed. I have had it for about 30 years, and it was definitely not new when I got it. It was purchased at a yard sale for very little money. Some of the differences I have observed from the print on your website are: no image of Mt. Fuji on right side, different costume and posture of pole man, trees and house show differences, as do some of the figures, and the the red seals under the characters in the upper left are circles rather than rectangular, although all the characters seem to be identical. I was recently looking through a book of photographs of Frank Lloyd Wright houses, and this print is shown hanging in one of the rooms. It appears to be the print that I have, because Mt. Fuji is not visible and the trees in that area of the print are the same as in mine. While I can clearly see that the prints are not identical, I am wondering what I have, and I am wondering if you can shed any light on this for me. Thank you, |
