At a recent estate sale I bought several Kaoru Kawano Woodblock prints. He was a Japanese Woodblock Artist self taught. He spent time in a Siberian Prison Camp during the war. He passed away in 1963. This print is approx 11 by 16". Good bleed through of paint as shown in the pictures. It is unframed and signed in pencil and has the artist red stamp. This one is of a girl and two birds. I don't see any rubs or scrapes to the body of the print. The edges are a bit wrinkled. I'm sure with proper framing and matting this will not make a difference. |

Kaoru Kawano was a very popular artist for his distinctively styled depictions of figures, especially children. He uses the wood grain patterns to lender the textures and the mood to the works.
