Artist seal appears to read 山本 (Yamamoto). Clearly the card itself is a post-WW2 publication, proof that Takemura's business was re-established after the war. I feel the woodblock print is most likely post-war but I cannot discount the possibility that Takemura used remnant pre-war stock. The reason why I doubt this is because it is most likely that Takemura's business premises, including all woodblocks and stock, were destroyed in the Allied bombing of Yokohama in 1945. |

Unidentified Woodblock Children in Rain with Frog
Children in Rain with Frog Artist's seal reads Yamamoto or Motoyama Publisher: Takemura Hideo. Bears round Takemura seal. Date: 1930s. Collected after WWII but very likely from Takemura's pre-war stock (no!). Size: 5.5 x 3.5 inches. Tipped at top to original greeting card. Medium: Japanese woodblock print. Condition: Print is excellent. Card is foxed. This is from a rare Takemura-published group that contained previously unknown Tsuchiya Koitsu prints. |
