Subject:
The work is a Kuchi-e print by Keichu. He was one of the leading artists of the Kuchi-e movement in Kansai area. He was an important woodblock printmaker of the Meiji Period. His specialty was kuchi-e prints and illustrations for books. We can feel the influence of the tradition in the print. Kuchi-e are woodblock-printed frontispiece illustrations produced for publication in Japanese novels and literary magazines at the turn-of-the-century (1895-1912). This print represents the daily life of a japanese family. The Kuchi-e print is in his original condition ( inserted in the book).
