Tomioka Eisen Original Japanese Wootdblock Print (Meiji Period)


Artist: Tomioka Eisen (1864-1905)
Format: Kuchi-e( approx: 30cmx22cm),
Conditions: Fine colors and impression . Light toning and slight soiling, as is common in these Kuchi-e pieces. The print is folded vertically (now flattened) as are all kuchi-e prints (because of their use), so this is not a negative. The print is exactly as the pictures.So please, look attentively the picture. Thank you.

The work is a Kuchi-e print by Tomioka Eisen. He was an important woodblock printmaker of the Meiji Period. His specialty was kuchi-e prints and erotics prints. Kuchie are frontpieces prodduced for publication in Japanese novels and literary magazines at the turn-of-the-century (1895-1912). This print represents a beauty playing violin for a man. She is wearing western dress.
