Title Work provenance: Charlotte Bergman Collection, Israel Museum Artist Junichi Dobashi 1910-1975 Description Untitled lithographs with some hand coloring. Charlotte Bergman was a unique benefactor of Israel Museum in Jerusalem. She lived in a house built in 1970s on the museum premises for 3 decades in exchange for bequeathing her art collections. Part of the collections were sold but the museum preserved her house and some of the 200 artworks. Signature "Jun Dobashi" in pencil on the lower margin. Dated 1961. Medium/Technique Lithograph. Impression Excellent - very good ... printed on a thick, laid paper. Colors Excellent. Condition Excellent - very good ... Nominal foxing on the margins. From artelino: Junichi Dobashi, 1910-1975
Jun Dobashi was born in Tokyo in 1910. After he studied at Tokyo art academy in 1933, He came to Paris for the first time from 1938 to 1939. He returned in 1953 remaining there until 1969, holding his first one-man exhibition in 1954, which is why he is usually perceived as a Franco-Japanese artist. Jun Dobashi's work is abstract and close to "European Informel". Not just a painter, Dobashi also earned a reputation as a lithographer. He exhibited also in Le Salon d’ Automne, Le Salon de l’École de Paris and Le Salon de Midi and had another one-man show in Paris in 1969 as well as being a regular exhibitor at the Fricker gallery between 1960 and 1969. He also worked in England, Germany and USA. Dobashi was awarded Le Prix de Dôme Sélectionné in 1956. He painted in oils, watercolours and mixed media but was also a skilled lithographer. His technique relied strongly on the effects of the materials utilised augmented with vivid colours. He died in Tokyo, 1975.
