Outstanding western-style watercolor of flowering trees on a river signed "S. Fukumatsu" lower left. A number of artists --- such as Terauchi, Aoki, and Matsu ---- practiced western-style watercolor painting prior to World War II, producing proficient, technically skilled paintings of the Japanese landscape. This watercolor is an excellent example. It is signed lower left and is in very good condition. It measures 12.25" x 18.75" (sight size).
