Description "Tabi Geinin" (Travelling Performers). A shamisen player, drummer and a girl are heading to their home in the evening. A large full moon shines in the air casting faint shadows of them on the street. Watanabe's gallery shop in Tokyo was destroyed by the Kanto Earthquake in 1923. Many of the original woodblocks and prints were destroied and could never been re-produced again. |

UKNOWN 20TH CENTURY JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT WATANABE SEAL - NO RESERVE
Up for auction is this interesting Japanese woodblock print. I am not sure of the artist I could not find him in my database. It has the Watanabe seal. It is Oban in size at about 14 1/2 inches by 10 1/2 inches. The image is fair with some fading, some moderate to heavy abrasions, some moderate crinkling on the corners, and some foxing.
Furuya Taikenn “古屋台軒” dated in August of Taisho 10th year 1921.
Impression Very good. Colors Good. Condition Good … Light toning. Light foxing. A diagonal crease from the middle left edge to the upper right edge. Thin areas, missing areas and paper cracks were repaired by a backing paper.
Note Watanabe 6mm round copyright seal.
