In 1948 he established Sozo Bijutsu, an association of nihon-ga artists. Among his words are kacho-e carved by Okura Hanbei and published by Unsodo, Kyuryudo, and Bijutsu Shoin. In 1985 he was elected to the Order of Cultural Merit of Japan. Prints by Uemura Shoko are rarely seen. |

Uemura Shoko was born in 1904 in Kyoto, Japan, the son of Uemura Shoen a noted painter and woodblock print artist of the Taisho and Showa eras. In 1948 Shoko established Sozo Bijutsu, an association of nihon-ga artists. Among his works are kacho-e carved by Okura Hanbei and published by Unsodo, Kyuryudo, and Bijutsu Shoin. In 1985 he was elected to the Order of Cultural Merit of Japan. Woodblock prints by Uemura Shoko are very rare.
