Note that there may be some inaccuracies: Thursday, 5 February 2009 Snow Along the Banks of the Sumida River by Suzuki Shonen. Original Japanese woodblock print circa Meiji 20 (1887). Very good condition. A little soiling and binding holes in right margin. Print has not been framed and retains original colors. Strong texture and ink bleedthrough on Japanese washi. Print measures 9.8 x 6.4 inches.
	Artist Bio:	鈴木松年：嘉永元年（１８４８）、鈴木百年（すずきひゃくねん）の長男として京都で出生をした。名は賢、字は百僊。 鈴木家の先祖は、播州赤穂大石家に通じると云われている。父百年は、南宋画風の山水花鳥画を得意とする画家であり、当時主流であった四条派と並ぶほどにその画風が流行したことから、鈴木派を唱えたほどである。松年は、この父の影響を受け画家となったが、気性が激しく、周囲の者とたびたび対立を起こした。 弟子の中には上村松園や土田麦僊等がいたが、竹内栖鳳のもとへと去っていった。松年も父同様、山水画や他に人物画をも得意とし、国内外の博覧会、絵画共進会で活躍、京都画壇に重きを成す。 豪放剛健な作風による山水・花鳥・人物画を能くした。江戸時代の異相の画家である曽我蕭白の再来とも云われ、激しい気性そのままに天竜寺天井画の龍などを描いている。代表作として、海外の博覧会に出品した「雪景山水図」「嵐山春景」「松燗水聲」等の作品がある。松年は大正７年（１９１８）１月２９日、京都において６９歳の生涯を閉じた。
