Artist: Utamaro I
Format: Oban tate-e: 14.25" x 9.5" approx

Subject: From the series of full length designs entitled Fujin Tewaza Misao Kagami - Faithful Mirrors of Womens' Handiwork. The bijin laundress is depicted seated on a low wooden stool, washing clothes in a low washtub. Beside her in a water bucket is a group of iris flowers. Grey background.

A fine design. See Vever Sale Catalogue #2 lot 187. Also Shibui, Zuten, p.170; UZ volume 3, figure 37 and Yoshida #215.

Publisher: This example, like the Vever impression, lacks the seal of the publisher Yamazaki

Condition: Very slightly trimmed on right and at base. Areas of thinning to paper. Some wormholes professionally restored. Slightly toned and soiled. Minor marks and flaws. Generally good state.

Colour: Very good with nominal fading.
