Description
Summer: Sunflower by Shuzo Ikeda. Original Japanese woodblock print dated 1972. Signed and dated in pencil. It has been in a protective cover for many years and is in great condition. Colors are vivid! Thick ink on thick paper. The cover has some light tanning (see photo) but has done its job and protected the print. Print measures a little over 8 1/2" by 8". See my other auctions for more woodblock prints from the same artist.
This is 1 of several pieces of art work I purchased from a local estate. The woman was an art teacher and travel all over the world. |

Shuzo Ikeda was born in 1922 in Akita prefecture. In 1945 he graduated from Tokyo Higher Normal School. After a few years of teaching the artist became a member of Nihon Hanga Kyokai and other Japanese artist associations and turned to woodblock printmaking ('moku hanga') as a full-time artist. Shuzo is known for incorporating the the grain of his blocks into his woodblock print images.
