The Kaho has been framed and there is evidence of mat burn at the edges of the painting.
Nakajima Kano's life spanned the Edo, Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras. This exquisite watercolour, showing boats at anchor as evening draws in, dates from the 1920's. It measures approximately 24 x 36cm (9.5 x 14.1").

This is a beautiful original watercolor of boats at twilight by listed Japanese artist Kaho. It measures about 9 1/4 x 14 1/4 (no margins, of course, as it is a watercolor). Lovely blues accented with pale yellow in the sky (and in the reflections in the water) and striking red from the fires aboard the boats. Very nice condition; there is one tiny (and faint) foxing spot in the sky which may, in fact, be an irregularity in the paper. Otherwise, it is really excellent. |
