Shinto And Its Architecture Aisaburo Akiyama 1936 1st


shinto and its architecture by aisaburo akiyama softcover book in good condition except spine is missing, chip and tear to cover, one print of mount fuji is missing. 126 pages. Illustrated with 11 wood block prints by kawase hasui. Also includes black and white photographs of shrines and illustrations of shrine styles. Wood blocks are titled, yasukuni shrine tokyo and its cherry blossoms, meiji shrine tokyo, kamedo shrine tokyo and its wisteria blossoms, hie shrine tokyo after a shower, hachiman shrine kamakura, the wedded rocks of futami-ga-ura near the grand shrine of ise, heian shrine kyoto, yasaka shrine kyoto, deer strolling along kasuga shrine nara, minatogawa shrine kobe, and ryobu torii of itsukushima shrine in inland sea, one print has small tear at top left corner. All prints are still intact in book. Published by japan welcome society kyoto 1936 first edition. Rear of book states price y15.00 printed in japan.

Artist Bio: 

川瀬 巴水。1883年(明治16年)5月18日 - 1957年(昭和32年)11月7 日)。大正・昭和期の浮世絵師、版画家。1918年 (大正7年)、風景画家として世に出る。以後、数多くの木版画を発表。 衰退した日本の浮世絵版画を復興すべく吉田博らとともに新しい浮世絵版画の叙情的世界に、自然に肉薄する近代人の視点を導入することにより、独自の世界を展開した。享年74歳。
