Subject: Although he was mainly a painter, Isoda b.1917 made several prints in the late 1940s and 1950s that were published by Unsodo. This example shows a seated bijin holding an open fan.

Condition: Full size. Some foxing in margin, bottom left. Minor marks and flaws. Generally very good state.

Born in Kyoto in 1907, Isoda Mataichirô studied painting at the Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting. After graduating there he studied Japanese-style painting with Kikuchi Keigetsu. Though primarily a painter he also made a number of woodblock print designs via the publisher Unsôdô in Kyoto.
