SHUZO IKEDA - ORIG. JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT - 1959
We found this wonderful print at an estate auction. The sale was for the estate of a Dr. and his wife who had traveled extensively and collected many beautiful things. This print had been framed but the frame was broken so we removed it. The print measures 12 3/8 inches by 18 3/8 inches. It is signed in the lower left-hand corner "Shu. Ikeda". In the lower right-hand corner it reads " -59 , No. 386, 4/20". The print is in good condition with no tears or bends. The border is somewhat darkened and I have taken a picture of the back of the print so that you can see the discoloration on the corners from the framing.

Shuzo Ikeda was born in 1922 in Akita prefecture. In 1945 he graduated from Tokyo Higher Normal School. After a few years of teaching the artist became a member of Nihon Hanga Kyokai and other Japanese artist associations and turned to woodblock printmaking ('moku hanga') as a full-time artist. Shuzo is known for incorporating the the grain of his blocks into his woodblock print images.
