Battle between Two Warriors, by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849)

This print shows two warriors in battle. One seems to be lifting a huge temple bell, while the other is bending over the top of the bell. The background of the image is seen in the bare hints of dark blue around the edges, as if pushed back from the center of the print by the power of the two men. Hokusai, the consummate print artist, created this work with its strong use of primary colors and frame-filling motifs.
