Yui, from the series Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido ,by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849)

This print shows a scene at Yui, one of the rest stops or stations in Shizuoka prefecture among the fifty three stations along the Tokaido. The figures dance in the rain, as if filled with the joy of long awaited rain. Rain comes in all forms, at times disheartening, at times welcome .
