The following information was taken from the original web listing of this artwork. Note that there may be some inaccuracies:

Fan Print of a Beauty, by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861)
This image looking in at a mother and child seen between two bamboo blinds was created in a round Japanese fan-shaped format. This print could have been then cut out around the fan shape and pasted directly on a fan. The women depicted by the late Edo genius Kuniyoshi do not have the malicious quality seen in Eisen's prints. Kuniyoshi's women, in fact, seem to have something of a girl-next-door, open-hearted, everyday quality about them.
