Subject: A young poet in Heian Court robes looks down at a young girl who is tugging on his robes. From the series 'An Educational Account of Self-Made Men'.

Date: 1885

Condition: Fine colors. Full size. Japanese album backing paper. Minor marks and flaws. A small tear in right margin. Generally fine state of preservation.

Impression: Fine impression of the first edition with gauffrage.

129 years old original woodblock print.

This print picturing the young poetess Koshikibu no Naishi tugging at the robe of Middle Counselor Fujiwara no Sadayori, who had come to her room to tease her about being chosen to participate in a poetry contest.


Print size : about 14.5 x 9.9 inches.
Publisher : Matsuki Heikichi (????) proprietor of Daikokuya

First edition prints feature a patterned border in a variety of colors, while the 1902 edition has plain paper borders. A fascinating series and a great choice for a collector interested in life in late 19th century Japan.

Publishing date : 1886.

Excellent color, impression and details. There are stains on the reverse side.
