A wonderful watercolour of a couple strolling amongst the cherry blossoms of Ueno Park. Sometimes when I catch this painting out of the corner of my eye, it looks like the blossom petals are actually falling. I think this painting inspired his highly prized print of the same scene: The man's right knee is strikingly similar in both - I don't think the print and painting are very far apart in time. The lady certainly cheered up when she got an umbrella too! Framed, 19.5 x 15.5 inches |
