Castle in the Moonlight" World Heritage Site

A lovely little "postcard size" genuine woodblock print by the great shin hanga artist Hasui Kawase. The subject is
Himeji Castle in the moonlight.
Print size (including margin) 3 3/4 " by 5 3/4 " (9.5 cm by 14.5 cm approx.).
Good color and impression, with Kawase's seal in the lower left margin. A small printing smudge at the bottom of the lower margin, barely noticeable.

Tipped to original presentation folder.

I got this charming print in a "See Tokyo" Pigeon Bus tour souvenir envelope of several small prints published by S. Watanabe. Kawase worked with S. Watanabe the hanga publisher for many years. He was the last of the great shin hanga artists, and was regarded as the 20th century Hiroshige because of his beautiful landscapes and prolific output. I would guess this souvenir to be from the 50s or 60s, but I'm not sure. The tourist brochure said "While in Tokyo visit our store" located on the Ginza.
Kawase HASUI, (1838-1957). 4 pcs. original small woodblock prints. Top left to right as pictured; Hemeji Castle, artist sealed, Hiraizumi Konjikido in Snow, titled bottom left, this print version 2 or manner of Hasui, Mt. Fuji in Winter, artist red seal, Nandin Bush, Hasui sealed, I have never seen this print before. Published by S. Watanabe for Pigeon Bus Tour's, see picture of folder. Lightly tipped at top to white greeting card stock. Pristine. All about 4 x 6 inches print size
