Yabukoji at the foot of Mt. Atago, from the series One Hundred Famous Views of EdoÓ, by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858)
Sparrows fly overhead as people walk and meet along a little street on a snowy day. Everything is blanketed in snow and only the chatter of the sparrows resounds in this silent world. The talented artist is one who can express such a sense of sound.
