This is one of several Japanese Woodblock prints that I have from an estate of military family that was stationed in Japan in the 1950s. This one is by Yoshimoto Masao and pub by Kyoto Hanga-In.
The date of publishing is shown on front bottom. The last picture is of the reverse side of the woodblock. There is a small indentation on the top edge of the print margin. It does not affect the print
itself. The woodblock is on a paper that is approx. 11.5" x 16.5". |
Japanese woodblock print depicting a young girl carrying a baby on her back as she walks from a traditional home with a thatched roof toward a small boat on the bank of a lake. Rising majestically in the background is a snow covered Mt. Fuji. The artist's signature and seal are at the bottom right corner of the image. The circular artist's seal can be found on page 244 of "Collector's Value Guide to Japanese Woodblock Prints" by Sandra Andacht. It is identified there as belonging to the artist Omura Koyo (b. 1891), who was known to have produced prints of Kyoto scenes which were published by Kyoto Hanga-in. The seal of the publisher Kyoto Hanga-in is in the margin at the right of the signature. Likely dates from the 1940's. The paper measures 11 1/4"V x 16 1/8"H (image size about 10 5/8"V x 15 1/2"H. Full margins. Still tipped to the original presentation folder. Excellent condition and vibrant color. The image and baren marks are clearly visible on the back.
