A very rare pre-earthquake print by Shinsui. Shinsui signature and seal at lower left. No margins, as published.
Series info: The Loyal Ronin - Fantastic design from a series of woodblock prints published in 1921 under the title "Gishi Taikan" or "The Loyal Ronin." Based on the famous tale of the 47 Ronin, these lovely images illustrate scenes from this classic story of honor and revenge. Unlike traditional ronin series, these images focus on more quiet moments from the story, including beautiful landscape settings, contemplative nature scenes, and the quiet interaction between characters. A variety of artists contributed designs to the series. Beautifully printed with fine detail and soft coloring, these rare prints are a great choice to collect or display. A fascinating interpretation of this timeless legend.

Reading a Letter - Handsome scene of two beauties reading a letter, their heads close together as they study the writing. A group gathers behind them to read a similar message, standing around in the snow with interest. Beautiful soft shading in the pale winter sky.
