Narazaki writes that this is "A clever composition that illustrates the white walls of earthen storehouses, an array of slanting black surfaces stacked as tiled roof. The houses are effectively conveyed against the distant landscape of water; sky and clouds. It was sketched on February 20, 1933, produced on September 15 of the same year and published in March 1934."
Okitsu is the 17th station on the Tokaido. The Suruga region is part of present-day Shizuoka prefecture. |

Notes: Unlike example in Hotei, this impression displays dark purple bokashi throughout the clouds. Additionally, strong wood grain is present in the center of the sky. Stored since original purchase from S. Watanabe print shop. Never framed or displayed.
Provenance: The collection was initially purchased directly from S. Watanabe print shop in the mid-1940's and has always been properly stored away in a single collection. The majority of the works showcase rarely seen MINT colors; several far exceeding numerous examples seen in prior collections. |
