Original Japanese woodblock print by noted contemporary printmaker Kenji Seki. Now in his eighties, Seki was for decades the head printer for the shin hanga publishing firm Doi Hangaten What is less well known is that Seki was a fine designer and printmaker in his own right, combining modern technique with a very "shin hanga" aesthetic, resulting in some of the finest of contemporary Japanese woodblock prints. It would be easy to mistake this example for a Shufu Miyamoto print, as the rising mist is very evocative of Miyamoto's work. The printing, as you would expect, is first rate. Color and impression are superb, and the print is in lovely condition. There is beautiful bokashi throughout the sky, purple fading to pink and almost to white at the mountain's edge; then again in the hillsides in the foreground, where mist lingers in between each row of hills. It is framed in a simple cherry-finished Japanese frame with rounded corners (also in beautiful condition); archival materials are used throughout, and it is glazed with UV-plexi rather than glass, for safety in shipping and for its conservation qualities. It is quite a large print, measuring about 15 x 21" plus full large margins. Pencil signed and numbered. Seki Kenji- Misty Fuji- Full0.jpg:
