Kawase Hasui (1883 - 1957) Cherries at Night in Koganei, 1935 A luminous night scene of cherry trees in full bloom with the blossoms glowing from the city lights. The trees go on as far as the eye can see, along both sides of a canal with its grassy embankments. Just beyond the blossoming trees is a glimpse of the bustling city. Unique Hasui scene exuding the festivity of cherry blossom viewing. Signed - Kawase Hasui with red artist's seal "sui" Sealed - Publisher Watanabe, 7mm seal, later edition original, from original blocks Image size - 9 1/2" x 14 3/8" (oban tate-e) Condition - Excellent, no toning, tears, not mounted, full margins |
