Notes (1st edition)Title Highland limited edition - hand signed, large size Note: This is a recarved version of "White Birch" Artist Toru Mabuchi 1920-1994 Signature artist's signature in white pencil on the lower right corner of the image. Dated 1984 Edition Size 40 Medium/Technique Woodblock print Description "Kogen". Grove in highland. This is a recarved version of "White Birch" with coarser lines and slight carving and colour differences. Note the artist signature is now on the right-hand side. Width Item 24.6 inches = 62.5 cm Height Item 19.3 inches = 49.0 cm Toru Mabuchi was a fine technician and could do elaborate printing using thirty to fifty printing stages. He did not want to use only the traditional method. Since he had been interested in the Byzantine mosaics and the pointillist paintings of Seurat, he developed a printing technique by using small pieces of wood pasted on print blocks like mosaic stones.
