Original 20th century Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty at Night

Comments - Beautiful shin hanga design of a beauty strolling across a floor at night. The sleeve of her pale lavender outer kimono has slipped down, and she reaches for the fabric with slender fingers as the robe trails onto the floor behind her. One bare foot peeps out from her light blue under robe, her chin tilted proudly upward, showing off the graceful line of her delicate white throat. The background is rendered in subtle, swirling baren marks, adding a soft texture and a sense of depth that contrasts beautifully with the smooth tones of the garments. A lovely, large format woodblock that would make a stunning framed presentation.

Artist - 20th century artist (not translated)
Image Size - 21 3/8" x 15"
Condition - With excellent color and detail. A couple light creases in subject. A couple light spots in margin. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.

Authentic woodblock print, ca. 1930's, Showa era. Not sure how to translate the artist's name - "Gorota" or "Goryota." Shin Hanga Bijin print from the great era of Shinsui, Goyo and Kotondo. Highest quality printing, with baren rubbings, blind printing, gofun like white pigment. Large size - 58 x 41 cm. No backing, beautiful pigment bleedthrough. Fine condition except for small tape evidence on the bottome verso and a strip of discoloration across the top margin, but flaws do not affect the image - would look amazing framed. I believe this print must be rare - I have only seen it once in four years. Seals at the lower right corner - Artists seal, Kyoto hanga-in publisher seal, Shinagawa edition seal, Shibamura carver seal and Ito printer seal.
