Nigatsu-do pavilion of Todai-ji temple in Nara. The sun casts dark shadows of the large lanterns on the tall doors. Two ladies are coming into the pavilion. Seal: Artist's seal (Sho). Dated: 1940. Publisher: Kato Junji. Medium/Technique: Woodblock print. Impression: Very good. Colors: Very good. Condition: Very good … Slight toning. Two drying holes on the left margin. Light toning line on the top margin. Note: The birth name of Ishiwata Koitsu was "Shoichiro". The Chinese character, "Sho", is indicated inside of the red square seal. Japanese Woodblock Print, First Edition Koitsu Ishiwata. Very rare! Published in Showa Juu (1935) by Junji Kato, and bearing the original Junji Kato seal in the lower right margin. The print is oban size, about 14 1/2 x 9 1/2 plus full margins. Sealed with Ishiwata's red seal lower right. There is a faint mat mark just inside the image, mostly visible on the lefthand side, but not particularly obtrusive. Otherwise the print is in nice condition.
