Rare Offering: Two of the four seasons (Spring & Autumn) prints from the 1949 series: Fujiya Hotel, Miyanoshita, Japan by Kawase Hasui, published pre 1957 (6mm seal) by Watanabe and most likely first edition of these prints. The prints are in pristine condition having been kept in a portfolio, never framed since they were purchased by a military family stationed in Japan post WWII reconstruction period. Note the American flag above the hotel in the Spring and Autumn. The colors are as strong as they were the day they were printed. The paper has toned to an old cream-tan shade and is even throughout. There is no foxing, stains or other problems usually associated with woodblock prints. The margins are full and have deckled edges on two sides. Also, there is a margin cut in on both print L/L that may mean that the printing was supervised by the artist. Both prints also have the 1 1/8' circular blind stamp in the print, also in the L/L corner. The prints are being offered separately, so please check our other auctions. Of course we will combine shipping on multiple purchases. The prints have been kept in high museum quality acid free hinged mats with mylar dust coverings which can be included or not depending on the buyer's wishes.
