He was an important woodblock printmaker of the Meiji Period. His kuchi-e prins is very rare. He was the disciple of Yoshitoshi and Toshikata. We can feel the influence of the tradition in the print. Kuchi-e are woodblock-printed frontispiece illustrations produced for publication in Japanese novels and literary magazines at the turn-of-the-century (1895-1912).
