Hasui Kawase

Japanese artist, 1883-1957.
Hasui Kawase is one the great masters of the Shin Hanga movement. Shortly before his death, his art work was declared a Living National Treasure by the Japanese government.
This is a vintage and original old color woodblock print.

“Shikishiwagarawa, Maebashi”.

A beautiful landscape with mountains at sunset.

1942 (lifetime edition).

Has Japanese writing in the image and in the left margin.

Has “Made In Japan” stamped on the verso.

Image measures 9 5/8 x 14 3/8 inches. Page measures 10 ¼ x 15 3/8 inches. Unframed.

Other than one crease in the upper right corner, excellent condition.
Crisp lines, great color, highly detailed carving.

Rare.

Comes from a private estate.
