| Notes (this edition) These notes were written by the original owner/seller/auctioner of the item and may be inaccurate.: | Saturday, 9 December 2006 "Akashi cho" (Garden Corner ) This is an extremely rare woodblock by Tatsumi Shimura (1907-1980). Limited Edition, print 227 of 450. Tatsumi said about this print, "I feel Akashicho (a very old section of Tokyo) of an admiration and admired depth of the image taste since founder of a religious sect Kiyokata* died. There were many kept girls by man in Tsukiji of the Meiji era. The woman who appeared to see off man who returned early in the morning of early fall. The empty sadness that does not know when he next comes. She put a kimono ( called Awase) on chest (heart) on the bare skin unintentionally in unlined clothes, the morning when it is cold. Few flowers of reluctance of leaving look like just a woman standing still." Rarely seen in Japan and nearly impossible to find outside of Japan as Tatsumi prints are extremely rare, highly cherished in Japan and seldom sold. This print is seldom seen outside of Japan. Tatsumi specialized in bijin ga - prints of beautiful women. He is most famous for his series "Five Figures of Modern Beauties" (Gendai Bijin Fuzoku Gotai). Tatsumi痴 prints are held by the world痴 most famous museums. This limited edition print is numbered 227 of 450. Carver; Kentaro Maeda (very famous carver in Japan), Printer; Ritsuzo Sato, and Publisher; Yuyudo. Red seal says " Tatsumi Ken In" . Size is very large: paper size is 19 and 1/2 inches by 16 and 1/2 inches. Colors are vivid, vibrant and in layers which makes them appear soft. The lines are crisp. Absolutely stunning original hand made Japanese woodblock print. Nearly perfect condition. Deep in the bottom margin has very faint paper blemish, hardly noticeable. Never framed. Monday, 24 October 2005 You are bidding on a very rare and beautiful original Japanese woodblock print 敵arden Corner� from the Series 溺odern Beauties Bijin Ga, Gendai Bijin Fuzoku Gotai� signed by the famous Shin-Hanga artist Shimura Tatsumi (1907-1980). The size of this woodblock print is 19 1/4x 16 inches. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. This woodblock print is not attached any backing paper or cardboard. Ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese mulberry Washi paper. All four borders are intact. The artist痴 signature and his chop mark are in the upper right corner of this print. In the lower right border of this woodblock print, there is the artist痴 original chop mark again and also the carver痴 and the printer痴 marks. At the left of the bottom border, it is pencil writing 265/450, means this is the 265th print out of 450 total prints. The publisher痴 seal is in the lower left border. As far as I can tell there are no defects, foxing, or stains, and this woodblock print is in excellent condition. |

This extremely rare woodblock by Tatsumi Shimura (1907-1980). Limited Edition print 285/450. Printed between 1977-1980. Carver; Kentaro Maeda, Printer; Ritsuzo Sato, and Publisher; Yuyudo. Size is large: paper size is 19 and 1/2 inches by 17 inches. Artist signature and personal seal located in lower right of image. Red "Tatsumi Kenin" seal in lower margin reads, "Tatsumi seal of approval". Colors are vivid and vibrant and in layers. Absolutely stunning original hand Japanese made woodblock print. Outstanding condition. Pristine except for extremely tiny fiber in paper from process of Japanese handmade Washi paper or a few pinpoint size ink drops in image which is almost impossible to see. Not noticeable to the casual observer. Rarely do we find these old prints in this nearly perfect condition. Additional pictures gladly provided upon request. There is an excellent examples of Tatsumi's work at the Tokyo National Modern Fine Art Museum. The quality, colors and exquisite nature these Japanese woodblock prints can not be fully appreciated with these inferior pictures. |
