Japanese woodblock print warrior triptych by Gekko (1859-1920). Gekko’s version of the Last Stand of the Kusanoki Clan. Backed, slightly trimmed, otherwise very good. An early Gekko composition, dated Meiji 11 or 1878. 14 1/4” x 9 3/8”.

The loyalty of the Kusonoki clan at the battle at Shijônawate - Kusunoki Shijônawate chűsen nozu - Masatsura Size of each sheet 25 x 36.5 cm. Originally published in 1891, this probably slightly later: the quality of the impression is very good, yet the names of the original publisher and carver have been removed (see bottom left of lefthand sheet).
