Artist Koitsu Ishiwata 1897-1987
Signature 'Yoshimi' on the lower left.
Dated Ca. 1950s.
Medium/Technique Woodblock print.
Impression Excellent - very good … Embossed.
Colors Excellent - very good … Gofun (white powder) for the snow.
Condition Excellent - very good … The top edge of the print is pasted on the card.
Description A Christmas card with a woodblock print depicting a village house and a person in straw rain coat in a snowy evening.
Note Ishiwata Koitsu's birth name was "Shoichiro", with the first character "Sho" being the same character inside the red round seal on some of his prints.
Width Item 3.5 inches = 9.0 cm
Height Item 5.3 inches = 13.5 cm
Width Mat 5.7 inches = 14.5 cm
Height Mat 7.5 inches = 19.0 cm

Thanks very much for the info on the Yoshimi signature. I actually have a couple other
good-quality prints with this signature, but could not identify it previously. These were from
some prior lot of postcard prints mounted as christmas cards and purchased by a US serviceman
sometime around WWII -- probably I have notes somewhere as to whether this was a pre-war or
post-war lot, but I don't want to dig for those right now.

Actually one of the signature is identical and definitely Yoshimi, while the other is similar but
not identical. I had identifed the "Yoshi" and "ga" but not the middle character.
