This is a beautiful woodblock print by shin hanga printmaker Kawase Hasui. The print is oban size, about 14 1/2 x 9 1/4, and printed on Japanese mulberry (rice) paper. Signed lower right. Condition is fair; there is a foxing stain in the image near the righthand side of the house (somewhat less visible in person than in the scan), and some toning to the margins. A really pretty Hasui image at a very low price!

Japanese woodblock print, Hasui. Titled Seto Bishu, dates from 1934 (Showa 9) per the notation in the lefthand margin. The color varies dramatically from the one pictured in the Moku Hanga Shu (the Hasui catalog raisonne); theirs is rendered in shades of grey and beige, where this one is primarily in shades of deep blue. (I just looked in the Hotei catalog as well, and their print is very close in tone to the one in the Moku Hanga Shu; I suspect that this one may be an intentional color variation from the original, because it really is quite different.) There is toning and some light areas to the print, althoughit is not too bad, largely because the image is quite dark to begin with.
