Nice print by KAWASE HASUI (Jap. 1883-1957) of a woman standing before a temple. I think this signature is an early one but that's just something I recall as I really don't know his prints that well. Colors are nice. It is unframed and unmatted. The printed image is 6 7/8 x 4 1/2" and the sheet is 7 3/8 x 4 7/8."
From the 1936 edition of the book. Thanks to Doug Tappin for this image. Monday, 25 April 2005

This block print was found in an original envelope from publisher S. Watanabe, Ginza, Tokyo.

The envelope was safely stored flat in a portfolio and I will be auctioning the Watanabe envelopes too.

Circa 1920's or 30's or earlier? And in Near mint condition.

Hopefully a close-up of the artists signature will help you identify him.

This wood block print measures 4 15/16" x 7 3/8" and total size including paper it's glued on is 6 13/16" x 9 1/4".

This print is glued to under sheet along top.
