Guaranteed original Japanese woodblock print by the shin hanga school artist Kawase Hasui. Series: Collection of scenic views of Japan, eastern Japan edition. Subject: Hall of the golden hue, Chuson temple, Hiraizumi. Date: October, 1935. Print bears the Watanabe "C" publisher seal indicating an early, original impression. Oban design measures 10.25" x 15". Condition: Excellent color, impression, condition. The publisher seal is slightly rubbed. NOTE: Blue toned Hasui designs are very popular with collectors. |
A very beauitful Japanese woodblock night scene print by Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) "Konjiki Pagoda" Publisher Watanabe "C" seal (so-called "Sausage Seal") 1929-42, printed in 1935. Hasui Kawase produced more than 400 woodblock designs until his death in 1957. Most of them were published by Watanabe. Kawase was the master of landscape prints. Famous are his night scene prints and the designs showing snow fall. Like no other artist he was capable of creating moods with his designs.
