Fine impression and colours, very good condition.

"Nude (No. 1)" by Kaoru Kawana. JOriginal apanese Color Woodblock. Self-carved and printed by artist; signed and sealed on front and original self-printed and sealed label on back.

Description: Dai Oban tate-e "Nude (No. 1)" by Kaoru Kawano. Numbered 96 of 200. Signed on front by artist in Japanes in red and also in pencil in English. On bottom margin artist penciled in name of Woodcut in both Japanese and English, numbered 96/200 and artist’s name again in pencil in English [this “authenticates” it as woodcut carved and printed by artist himself) Also original artist Self-printed label attached to reverse and sealed.

Purchased by owner’s relatives circa 1955-1960 from artist’s solo gallery display.

Condition: some light brown age spots on white portions of figure and in margin. No creases and only faint tape marks on reverse upper margin. Flat without creases; owner-framed behind glass for majority of last 40 years.Photos taken while still in frame; frame removed to confirm signature and seals; will be sold unframed.

Limited edition of two hundred impressions, numbered 96/200.

Printed upon fine, thick, Japanese kozo paper and with full margins as printed by Kawano in the 1950’s. Signed in pencil under the ‘Kaoru’ red seal within the woodcut to the lower right and also signed, titled (in both Japanese and English) and numbered, ‘96/200’, by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. A finely printed impression with full mica grounds and in good condition [with the exception of scattered circular age spots on the white) throughout. Nude (No. 1) represents a unique, original example of the famous woodcut art of Kaoru Kawano.
